Just watched this documentary Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John Mcafee
I don’t find McaFee himself that interesting. What I do find fascinating in a general sense is how there is a type of narcissistic psychopath, seeming to be in no short supply, that can go on camera in front of the world and not blink in representing a face of normalcy. After seeing I Tonya the first time, I went into a binge on learning everything about her, but this is at an entirely different scale of lunacy.
It reminded me of the documentary Tickled.
Two things struck me about this. Mcafee openly admits to all kinds of lies. The documentary looks utterly sound in what it presents. While there is room for ambiguity with some controversial cases, there is no doubt whatsoever that Mcafee is a murderer, a rapist, and a monster. The most bizarre piece was that he had this Hefner style household of kept young girls from Belize, but he didn’t have intercourse with them, but would routinely have them defecate in his mouth! At least three of the actual women are on camera to confirm this!
Yet he escapes to the United States and resumes being a supreme supposedly respectable business leader and speaks at NAB!
A guy with at last $100 million can do whatever he wants, but decides he wants to be a local gang leader with paramilitary thugs recruited from the slums of some tiny country. WTF?
I find it extremely scary how factual it is that the guy is a dangerous criminal but through sheer particular conditions, he is free to live amongst us, due in part to how the media helped him survive. Makes me wonder how many other murderers are out there with seeming indemnity.
I had to do some searching for a featured image for this post. I did not want his face displayed on my site.
